Walking With Jesus Through Cancer - Part 1: Diagnosis

WELCOME to Issue #191 of The Seedhead from Alex and Hannah at Dandelion Resourcing - a weekly confidence booster to help you step into naturally supernatural discipleship and mission!

Alex recently received a completely unexpected cancer diagnosis.

Fortunately it seems to be only stage 1b cancer of the larynx. Nevertheless, it is a huge shock and something that has the potential to absorb seemingly limitless amounts of time, energy, and focus.

In this video, Alex and Hannah share some initial thoughts on how to handle a moment like this.

In the next two videos we'll go further and deeper, reflecting on faith and suffering, the power of community, and spiritual warfare. Look out for those!

For now, in this first video we talk about the importance of rallying prayer support. Specifically, here are the prayer points that we mention in the video.

Two things you can do with them:

→ Please pray for us!

→ Use and adapt them either personally or to help others communicate when going through a significant challenging season.

  1. We’re praying for supernatural healing. That would be a cool testimony for Jesus!

  2. If the treatment involves a medical journey, for excellent care and wise decision making. And that it'll never get past stage 1.

  3. It does feel that some of this is spiritual warfare - the enemy is literally coming after my voice. Please pray for Jesus to drive back the enemy permanently and that my voice would be restored and supernaturally empowered.

  4. For us to be able to mine whatever good things there are in this. We don’t want to waste a difficult season! May we, and our whole family, draw closer to Jesus through this unexpected diversion, and also not be distracted from our greater calling to equip the American church to embrace naturally supernatural mission and discipleship.

  5. We’re scheduled to go to Europe in the summer (30th wedding anniversary and to celebrate Joel & Bekah’s wedding with the UK relatives!), which is a tight timeline for treatment. Personally I’d love it all done and dusted before then, but that seems unlikely in the natural.

  6. For financial provision. We’re not quite sure how the treatment will impact the ministry, but clearly we won’t be traveling to speak for quite a while. This is one of those times when it would be nice to be salaried! Yet we have over 6 years of (financially) living by faith with Dandelion, and Jesus has always provided, and so we’re excited to see how He will do so this time.

  7. We see spiritual warfare as including going on the advance, rather than just hunkering down. So over the months ahead we want to grow in our witness to our friends and neighbors, and also to write a lot more of the books that the Lord has commissioned us to release.

Thank you so much in advance, and for letting us share our personal journey with you.

And know that in spite of it all, even if things are worse than expected, with our whole hearts we KNOW that Jesus is far greater, that He always will have the last word, and we still have the fun of helping Him extend His radiant Kingdom rule in lives all around. God is good!

With love,

Alex + Hannah
