“The one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.” (1 Corinthians 14:3)
Did you notice…
The obedience and faith of the person who had the revelation, as they responded to a prompt from Jesus to share a prophecy with someone they’d just met.
That same sharer also modeled wisdom by clearly inviting Dave to weigh what had been shared. Whenever we give a prophetic insight, we must always do so with great humility, since none of us perfectly exercise the gifts of the Spirit all of the time. This mindset also empowers the recipient to process and respond as they see fit, which is the opposite of manipulation and control.
The specificity of the word deeply impact Dave. Did you see how the accuracy was way beyond what could have been chance or coincidence? You can become accurate like this too!
Friends - this is why Paul urges us to “eagerly desire the gifts of the Spirit, especially that you might prophecy”!
The prophetic gifts are so powerful in releasing the life of Jesus. They bring encouragement, clarification, and a Kingdom impetus to move forward.
All of us can learn to hear from Jesus - and then share in pastorally wise yet faith-filled ways.
Reflect and Act
Imagine a scale of 1-10, where 1=cynicism and 10=faith. As you listen to this testimony, what number would you give yourself (you can’t have 5, that’s boring!)? Now process your response with Jesus. Why did you respond how you did? What number would you like it to be at?
How can you grow in faith for giving accurate prophetic words? Examples might include fueling yourself with testimonies, pursuing biblical practical teaching, hanging with others who have more faith for this than you do, or choosing to risk stepping out and sharing what you sense from Jesus.
