The Prayer Walking Street Guide

WELCOME to Issue #189 of The Seedhead from Alex and Hannah at Dandelion Resourcing - a weekly confidence booster to help you step into naturally supernatural discipleship and mission!

Prayer walking might sound a little intimidating, but it's really just a down-to-earth way to connect with God and your community wherever you are on mission.

When you prayer walk, you're not just talking to God about your own stuff. Instead, you focus on the needs of your lost friends, neighbors, and colleagues, right where they are already doing life.

Really it is a form of spiritual warfare.

You take a stroll around your place of mission, whether that’s your neighborhood, school, college, workplace, sports field, or wherever. As you go you're lifting up the needs of the people and places around you.

It's like putting on God's glasses and seeing the world through His eyes. You start to really notice the struggles and joys of the folks living there, and you can bring that straight to Jesus.

As you go you're asking the Holy Spirit to work through you, to guide your steps and your words, as you observe what's going on around you. It's a chance to get your heart in tune with God's heart for the people in your area.

Part of the observation is what you see in the natural (people you pass, the state of buildings, things you already know about households you’re passing, etc), and part of the observation is what you sense in the spiritual realm. For instance, God might give you prophetic prompts to pray in certain ways, or show you the spiritual powers that are in operation in a particular location, or give you a glimpse of His heart for certain people or situations.

Since you’re not publishing your results or making public proclamations, you’re able to follow those spiritual hunches and pray them in. Go with what the Spirit stirs in you, and boldly pray - intercession, thanksgiving, praise, in tongues, confession, breaking curses, speaking blessing, and so on.

We have found prayer walking to be a powerful way to change the spiritual atmosphere in a place. Sometimes it takes just a few times of prayer to make an impact, while other times it can take many years! But we have found it to be a real game-changer everywhere we’ve lived on mission.

Let’s take seriously our mandate to live as missionaries who carry spiritual authority - as long as we fight with weapons that Christ gives to us. Among those, prayer is perhaps the most crucial! Prayer walking is a mighty way to combine prayer and mission.

Blessings,
