The Words We Speak: Are They Life-Giving or Death-Dealing?

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”

  • Do you remember when someone said something to you that left you feeling deeply discouraged, or even crushed in your identity?

  • Conversely, do you remember when someone said something that truly affirmed you, or even changed the course of your life for the better?

Proverbs 18:21 makes clear that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”

What we must realize is that:

→ Words are powerful

→ Words release destiny

→ Words are life-changing - your choice is whether that’s for good or for ill

Review the past 24 hours.

Did all of your words bring life to everyone who heard them? What about those who read your words on social media or in an email?

How Our Words Can Change Lives

As leaders in God’s Kingdom, we must become people whose words bring life into every relationship and space, physical or virtual, where we find ourselves.

To do this requires us to be constantly refilled by the Holy Spirit, so that we allow His presence to release His fruit into our mouths. Simultaneously, we discipline ourselves to not give in to every tempting thought or comment that wanders through our minds!

In this video, Hannah reflects more on the power of our words, and gives very practical next step ideas for moving forward in this area.

Reflect and Act

Let’s take a moment now to

  1. Repent of anything the Lord brings to mind

  2. Consecrate afresh our voice and our words to the Lord, to be used by Him

  3. Ask if there’s anyone Jesus wants us to share words of life with today
