supernatural discipleship and mission!

In issue #165 of The Seedhead we’re thrilled to present Part 1 of an in-depth interview with Ralph Moore, one of the leaders in the Jesus Movement in the late 60s/ early 70s. He has some AMAZING stories to tell!

Let’s dive in…

The Jesus Movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s was the last significant revival in the United States, and arguably in the Western world.

Coming at a time of great social upheaval, the Jesus Movement (also known as the Jesus People) saw vast numbers of young people come to faith in Jesus.

Time Magazine famously put the revival on its front cover in June 1971, under the title “The Jesus Revolution”.

Their extensive report commented,

“Jesus is alive and well and living in the radical spiritual fervor of a growing number of young Americans who have proclaimed an extraordinary religious revolution in his name. There is an uncommon morning freshness to this movement, a buoyant atmosphere of hope and love along with the usual rebel zeal.”

As one of the leaders in the Jesus Movement, Ralph Moore and his wife Ruby planted Hope Chapel Hermosa Beach, in Los Angeles California. 50 years later, this one plant has mushroomed into at least 2,700 new churches and countless transformed lives. WOW, what a legacy!

Graciously, Ralph has given us an extended interview on his experience of the Jesus Movement, both positive and disappointing, and his inside scoop on how it actually felt to be caught up in a reviving work of the Spirit.

In part 1 of this interview with Ralph, he shares stories from the frontlines of a revival, how people were drawn in and converted, and his memories of figures such as Chuck Smith and Lonnie Frisbee.

Here’s part 1 of the interview:

Reflect and Act

Ralph shared on how the Jesus Movement led to so much evangelism and discipleship.

  • Ask the Lord to stir up in you a similar zeal for sharing your faith in authentic ways

  • Wait on the Holy Spirit, and let Him show you specific next steps for the next 2 weeks

  • Ask the Spirit to fill you afresh, so that you do this out of His strength and empowering

Let us know what you thought of this part of the interview. How are you being inspired or challenged?

Blessings,

Alex + Hannah
