28 Ways to Be Missional This Easter!

WELCOME to Issue #237 of The Seedhead from Alex and Hannah at Dandelion Resourcing - a weekly confidence booster to help you step into naturally supernatural discipleship and mission!

Proven, fun, and impactful ideas for your place of mission!

Easter is the season when we celebrate the greatest news of all!

However, for many people around us, its true meaning gets lost in the excitement of egg hunts and gift baskets.

So we’d love to encourage you to take the opportunity to pray and ask God how to tangibly engage with your community. Maybe that’s with a few friends, as a small group, or even as a church family.

You might be surprised at how open your friends, neighbors, and colleagues are to exploring the deeper meaning of Easter if the invitation is given in a genuine and loving way.

To make it easier, we’ve put together a list of ideas that you can use, adapt, or build on to share the hope of Easter in your own context. Let’s step out in faith and see what God does!

Easter Missional Ideas

  1. Community Easter Service – Host a welcoming Easter service in a local park to make it accessible and inviting for all.

  2. Scavenger Hunt – Organize a fun, interactive hunt or quiz with prizes to engage families and bring the community together.

  3. Easter goody bags - Drop them on the doorstep of several people who you want to bless.

  4. "Handmade Card Delivery" - Groups can deliver handmade Easter cards to those you know and don’t know: local businesses, community centers, or shut-ins. with personal messages of hope and encouragement to distribute to those in your community.

  5. Support Local Schools – Provide Easter treats or thank-you gifts for teachers and staff.

  6. Acts of Kindness Week – Encourage church members to do small acts of kindness in the community, like paying for someone’s coffee or mowing a neighbor’s lawn.

  7. Easter Giveaway – Hand out free chocolates, hot cross buns, or small gifts with an Easter message.

  8. Prayer & Encouragement booth - “It’s Easter! A season of love and self sacrifice. Can we pray for and encourage you?” Offer to pray for people’s needs and share the love of Jesus.

  9. Share Your Story recording station - Create a space where people can record (spoken or written) journeys of hope, transformation and healing despite tough circumstances.

  10. Letters of Hope - Create a station where people can write encouraging notes to others.

  11. Hand Out Bottled Water – Attach a small tag with a message like, “Jesus is the Living Water – Happy Easter!”

  12. Parking meter joy - pay for meters and leave a cheerful Easter note

  13. Sidewalk Chalk Artists - Provide groups with colorful chalk and encourage them to create positive messages, Easter-themed drawings, or spring-related art on sidewalks in high-traffic areas. This can spark conversations with passersby.

  14. Chalkboard Messages - Set up portable chalkboards in public areas with inspiring quotes or Easter messages and invite people to add their own.

  15. Seed Bombing - Create seed bombs with wildflower seeds and distribute them in areas where they can be thrown to beautify neglected spaces (with permission, of course). This can be a fun way to spread spring cheer and talk about new life.

  16. Park Clean-Up & Chat - Equip groups with trash bags and gloves to clean up a section of a local park. As they work, they can engage with people enjoying the park and offer a friendly hello or Easter greeting.

  17. Bench Blessings - Have groups sit on park benches or other public seating areas and engage in friendly conversations with those who join them. They can offer a listening ear and perhaps share a message of hope. They could even have small, simple gifts like a packaged cookie or a flower to offer.

  18. Easter Care Packages – Assemble and hand out small care packages with chocolates, a handwritten note, and an invitation to your Easter service.

  19. Bus Stop Blessing – Give out snacks or water to people waiting for public transport.

  20. Kite Day - Provide simple kites for kids (or adults!) to decorate and fly in a park. The group can help people get their kites in the air and engage in lighthearted conversations.

  21. Give Flowers to Hospital Staff or Caregivers – Bring joy to nurses, doctors, and caregivers working over Easter.

  22. Gas Station Blessing – Give out small prepaid gas gift cards or clean people’s car windows while they refuel.

  23. Easter Selfie Station – Set up a fun Easter-themed backdrop in a public area and offer to take people’s pictures. Have a QR code linking to an Easter message or invitation to your church.

  24. Coffee Shop Conversations – Invite people in for free coffee and a relaxed chat about Easter and faith.

  25. Host a Family Fun Day: Organize a day of games, activities, and crafts for families in the community to enjoy together.

  26. The Great Easter Hunt: A Journey to the Empty Tomb – Create an interactive scavenger hunt with clues that walk participants through key moments of the Easter story, ending with the empty tomb.

  27. Resurrection Garden Workshop – Invite families to create small resurrection gardens with soil, stones, crosses, and an empty tomb as a visual reminder of new life.

  28. Stone Rolling Ceremony - Create a symbolic activity where participants write obstacles in their lives on stones, then collectively move them to create a pathway or garden feature, symbolizing the stone rolled away from the tomb.

Next Steps

  1. What would be fun and engaging to the people you’re trying to reach?

  2. When would be a good time to gather?

  3. Where would be an invitational and appropriate space?

  4. Who is going to help you, and who are you going to invite?

  5. What do you need to do in advance? (Invitations, food and drink, supplies, furniture, music, etc)

  6. Cover it all in prayer!

Let’s go for it in faith and perseverance!

With love,
