Learning From Cancer: The Escape From Striving
WELCOME to Issue #208 of The Seedhead from Alex and Hannah at Dandelion Resourcing - a weekly confidence booster to help you step into naturally supernatural discipleship and mission!
How to operate from a place of greater peace.
As many of you know, Alex has been fighting cancer of the larynx since it was diagnosed at the beginning of April. Fortunately it was caught early, so the prognosis is positive. We are deeply grateful to God for the miraculous way that came about (which we have talked about in the past).
Unfortunately, though, the journey to healing has entailed going through some grueling treatments (surgery and over 6 weeks of daily radiation treatment aimed at his throat). While that ended in late June, he’s still been struggling with side effects, especially weight loss and throat issues. However, he is slowly improving, especially with Hannah’s ruthless daily counting of protein and calorific intake!!
From the initial diagnosis onwards, we’ve been determined to mine the good and the growth out of this tough situation, on the principle that we should never waste a difficult season. Today we’re going to share some of our learnings on overcoming striving, which for action/ task/ achieving types (Alex!) is not the most natural posture to take up.
While this is of course a personal reflection, we hope that there will be devotional and leadership fuel in here both for you and also for those you love and lead.

Next Steps
When are you most drawn into striving?
What specific steps can you take to pause, recognize what’s going on, and then operate differently?
If you’d like to pray for us, we’d be so grateful. In particular, please intercede for:
◦ Relief from the side-effects of the radiation, especially for Alex’s throat to be calm and peaceful, with no coughing or coughing fits.
◦ That the cancer will be completely gone from his body, never to return.
◦ That we can personally mine all the good things that God is working in us through this challenging season.
◦ For the Lord to open up abundant wells of provision and opportunity.
◦ That by being public about this journey (which we felt the Lord call us to do), we will help build the faith of many to more deeply call on Jesus and trust Him in all things.
Thank you so much! We are immeasurably grateful for your love, support, and prayers.
With love,
Alex + Hannah
