How to Free People from Demonic Oppression
Discover how to free people from spiritual warfare and to do basic deliverance!
WELCOME to this week’s newsletter, focusing on a real life story of deliverance from demonic oppression on a college campus.
Are you aware how many people around you will experience demonic oppression this week?
This can come in a variety of ways. Common examples include:
The tangible presence of a dark presence/ demons in a room
Disturbing, lurid, and fear-inducing dreams that originate from the enemy
Dehumanizing thoughts that crush and eventually overwhelm a person
These experiences can end up totally dominating huge parts of a person’s life. It is a nasty, vile, and wicked scheme of the evil one.
HOWEVER, the good news is that Jesus is the great liberator! He has completely defeated the enemy at the cross, and has broken the power of all curses.
“The reason the Son of God appeared was in destroy the devil’s work.” (1 John 3:8)
“Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death - that is, the devil - and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.” (Hebrews 2:14-15)
Jesus: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
Today, all believers are equipped to carry on the ministry of Jesus in setting the captives free from the enemy.
Jesus has given each one of us authority to drive out the forces of darkness.
"And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases.” (Luke 9:1)
"I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.” (Luke 10:19)
“He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation… And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons...’” (Mark 16:15-17)
Yet so many Christians are utterly oblivious to this authority - and thus ignore this repeated command from Jesus to EVERY believer.
But you’re not like that, are you? ◡̈
So… what would you do if someone confessed that they were having these kind of experiences?
A few weeks ago our son Isaac, who’s a senior at college, had a friend reach out for help after some strong demonic attack. The young man was having repeated highly oppressive experiences, particularly in his dorm room at night.
In this video, Isaac describes what happened, how he and a friend were able to help, and specifically what they did.
He also talks a bit about how we can encourage the kids and teens in our families and communities to be open to be used by the Spirit in this area.
Some of the insights from the video include:
→ Operate in teams when doing planned spiritual warfare.
→ What are you praying out (e.g. fear, anger)?
→ What are you praying in (replacing the darkness with)?
→ Always end by filling with the Holy Spirit.
→ Make sure that if you’re doing the praying, afterwards you cleanse yourselves with the blood of Jesus.Sometimes, praying once deals with the situation. Sometimes we need to pray a few times.
→ Often it’s a good idea to give the person we’re praying for strategies to deal with the situation themselves, should the enemy try and reclaim the ground that was taken. Examples include:
Tell the enemy to leave in the name of Jesus.
Declare that you are covered by the blood of Jesus.
Ask the Lord for specific Scriptures which can be quoted out loud to deal with the situation at hand, e.g. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
→ Sometimes we need to direct the person to other sources of help - that is not failure, but wise procedure!

Reflect and Act
Ask the Lord for opportunities to set the captives free!
Specifically, ask Him to give you at least one moment this month when you can pray with someone for release from the enemy’s oppression.
And also ask for naturally supernatural boldness to seize the moment, and to trust that He will empower you as needed!
