How to Initiate Spiritual Conversations

In issue #170 of The Seedhead we’re focusing on how to proactively lean into spiritual conversations with your lost friends.
Here’s our experience: you can learn to authentically chat about spiritual matters with people who might otherwise be a long way from Jesus - and you can do so while building (rather than draining) relational capital.
Let’s dive in…
If you won’t initiate spiritual conversations, you can’t claim to love your lost friends well.
“When he saw the crowds, [Jesus] had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’” (Matthew 9:36-38)
Lost people face an eternity without Jesus.
This sobering reality means that we, as followers of Jesus, must take seriously the need to share our faith.
However, most Christians rarely, if ever, do so. This is driven by all sorts of reasons, such as:
Fear of rejection
Not knowing how to talk naturally about Jesus
Feeling ill-equipped to evangelize in a manner that is relational and invitational
We think that it’s vital to know how to initiate spiritual conversations - and in this video we’ll show you how!
In particular we’re going to show you 4 main ways you can proactively, yet relationally, move to spiritual conversations:
1. Offer, “Can I pray for you?”
2. Share your spiritual stories
3. Call out the gold in others
4. Ask open spiritual questions
You’ll find this to be a super-practical, encouraging, and do-able training!

Which of the 4 ways do you currently use, and which one(s) do you want to try out.
Over the coming month, how many times will you commit to using these tools? Set a faith goal!
Name another Christian who you’ll ask to hold you accountable for following through. The goal is not shaming or feeling guilty if you don’t manage it! Instead, they can celebrate the wins with you, and help you process the times when you failed/ chickened out/ couldn’t be bothered. ◡̈

Our training on how to initiate spiritual conversations is part of a larger resource called The 6 Gears of Conversation.
