How to Stop and Listen to the Holy Spirit Throughout Your Day

WELCOME to The Seedhead from Alex and Hannah at Dandelion Resourcing -
a weekly confidence booster to help you step into naturally
supernatural discipleship and mission!

In issue #169 of The Seedhead we’re thinking about listening to the Spirit as we go through our days.

Here’s our belief: you can grow to become highly attentive to the voice of God WHILE you are working, learning, playing, and doing life.

It does take practice (and it will be a lifelong journey of growth), but it is such a vital spiritual discipline.

Let’s dive in…

Listening to the Spirit is the #1 Spiritual Discipline

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)

The ability to listen to the Holy Spirit should be the primary spiritual discipline that we teach.

Jesus calls us to be ones who hear what He says, and then put that revelation into faithful practice.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)

In this text, He then goes on to say that some will do significant naturally supernatural wonders, but because they did not do so out of relationship with Him, they will have missed the bigger picture.

God is looking to form sons and daughters, not slaves and servants. It’s not about what we achieve for Christ, but about who we are becoming in Christ.

This journey is rooted in the ability to hear what He is saying in any and every situation. That is then coupled with the willingness to follow-up in obedience and faith, whatever the cost.

All this means that hearing the voice of God is the most foundational of the spiritual disciplines, and thus we should eagerly pursue greater maturity and functionality in the prophetic gifts (1 Corinthians 14:1, 39).

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24)

Here’s a video where we talk about this topic more:

Reflect and Act

  1. How good are you at stopping throughout the day to listen to God’s voice?

  2. How good is your community at stopping to listen to God?

  3. What specific discipline will you take on to stop and listen to God’s voice more consistently?

Drop us a note to share what you do to be more consistent in hearing God’s voice!

Blessings,

Alex + Hannah
